Saudi Arabia Chosen to Host Global Conference on Water Challenges and Desalination

In a groundbreaking decision, the International Desalination and Reuse Association announced on Monday that Saudi Arabia will be hosting the prestigious 2026 IDRA World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse Solutions.

The selection of Riyadh as the host city was made during the ongoing IDRA 2026 congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Under the theme “Addressing water scarcity,” the Saudi Press Agency revealed that Saudi Arabia, a leading country in the water sector, produces a daily volume of desalinated water equivalent to the global daily oil production.

With a proven track record of technical innovation in combating water scarcity and promoting renewable energy, Saudi Arabia has implemented numerous desalination projects.

The IDRA 2026 congress will provide a platform for Saudi water officials and experts to exchange knowledge with counterparts from 60 countries, showcasing the Kingdom’s expertise in addressing water scarcity.

This event will not only highlight the latest technical advancements and sustainable solutions in the water sector but also facilitate the formation of strategic partnerships among nations and organizations.

In a related development, the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Jeddah recently launched the International Water Research Center, signaling a commitment to achieving sustainable water solutions amidst the global climate crisis.
