$78.7m windfall for Saudi wheat farmers – find out why!

Saudi General Food Security Authority disburses payments to local wheat farmers

In a move to support local agriculture, the Saudi General Food Security Authority has distributed the first round of payments to wheat farmers who fulfilled their quota for the 2024 season.

Through the authority’s official electronic platform Mahsoly, payments totaling SR295,177,176 ($78.7 million) were transferred to the bank accounts of 792 farmers. This covered a total of 175,703 tonnes of wheat.

Since the start of the season on April 21, a total of 552,535 tonnes of wheat has been delivered by 2,751 farmers. The authority has been actively receiving wheat from local farmers to meet the target set by the Cabinet.

Following a decision by the Cabinet, the authority has been authorized to purchase up to 1.5 million tonnes of wheat annually from farmers for the next five years. This initiative aims to boost food security and support local farmers in the Kingdom.
