Saudi Cabinet Agrees to Cover Government Costs for Displaced Persons

The Saudi Cabinet, under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has approved to bear the government costs for relocation and change of status for displaced persons from neighboring countries who are granted permission to live in the Kingdom.

Authorities will take care of fees related to residency, work permits, changes of employment and employer, service transfer fees, profession amendment fees, and the costs to private-sector businesses for employing the expatriate for a period of four years, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

Cabinet Meeting Highlights

During the weekly meeting, the Crown Prince commended the efforts in providing services to pilgrims during Ramadan and briefed ministers on ways to enhance relations with Ethiopia. The Cabinet also discussed regional and international cooperation for stability, prosperity, and sustainable development goals.

Focus on Women’s Rights and Development

The Cabinet members emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to women’s rights, as showcased by its selection to chair the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in the UN in 2025. They also reviewed outcomes of the governors’ meeting and highlighted efforts to improve quality of life for citizens and residents.

International Cooperation and Agreements

The Cabinet approved several memorandums of understanding with countries like the Dominican Republic, North Macedonia, Comoros, and Serbia for political consultations and economic cooperation. Agreements were also authorized in fields like public policy, nuclear safety, air transport services, and statistics.

Combatting Terrorism and Environmental Cooperation

The Chief of State Security was given the green light to sign a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan on combating terrorist crimes and financing, while the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture will collaborate with South Korea’s Maritime and Ocean University on seawater desalination.
