Special Envoy: Saudi and Japanese Policies Aligned on Gaza Efforts!

Saudi Efforts in Gaza Conflict Aligned with Japanese Policy

In a recent statement, UEMURA Tsukasa, Japan’s special envoy for Middle East peace, commended Saudi Arabia for its efforts to de-escalate the Gaza conflict, stating that they are “in line” with Japanese policy. Uemura emphasized the importance of providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza and praised Saudi Arabia for its political efforts in the region.

Japan’s Role in De-Escalating Conflict

Since March 27, Uemura has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in Gaza. He has visited several countries in the region, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, to closely communicate with relevant parties and international organizations.

UN Resolution and Japan’s Position

Uemura highlighted Japan’s role in chairing the UN Security Council when resolution 2728 was passed, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan. Despite the resolution, Uemura acknowledged that there has been little change on the ground.

Japan’s Commitment to Peace

While Japan supports Israel’s right to self-defense, Uemura reiterated Japan’s sincere commitment to the two-state solution and the Palestinian cause for self-determination. He emphasized the importance of bridging gaps between the two sides through initiatives like the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park and youth exchange programs.

Japan’s Stance on International Law and Humanitarian Assistance

Uemura underscored Japan’s stance on compliance with international law and the provision of humanitarian assistance in Gaza. He reiterated Japan’s support for the ICJ ruling and called for urgent action to improve the humanitarian situation and release hostages in the region.

Path to Peace and Rebuilding Confidence

Despite the challenges, Uemura expressed Japan’s commitment to ending the violence and de-escalating tensions in Gaza and Israel. He emphasized the need for urgent ceasefire measures to pave the way for lasting peace negotiations and confidence-building efforts.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The ongoing conflict has taken a heavy toll on the civilian population, with thousands of Palestinians killed and wounded in Israeli attacks since October 7. The death toll in Israel has also risen, with hostages still held captive in Gaza.
