In an ambitious vision for the future, the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is setting its sights on hosting 2 million visitors annually and creating 40,500 jobs by 2035. Dr. Stephen Browne, vice president of wildlife and natural heritage at RCU, shared this exciting plan during the Hima protected areas forum in Riyadh.

Dr. Browne emphasized the importance of protecting AlUla’s cultural landscape while creating economic opportunities for its communities and visitors. The goal is to make AlUla a global destination that showcases nature reserves and wildlife alongside heritage, art, and culture.

The strategy for AlUla’s development is built upon seven strategic pillars, including tourism, heritage, art and culture, nature and wildlife, economic and social development, spatial development, enabling services, and institutional excellence. Dr. Talal Al-Harigi highlighted the need for conservation areas to generate profit and explore ecotourism for sustainable growth.

Nada Al-Tamimi from the Saudi Ministry of Tourism emphasized the importance of sustainable ecotourism in generating revenue, creating jobs, and promoting economic prosperity.
