Breaking News: Moroccan Director Asmae El-Moudir joins Cannes Jury!

Meet the New Faces on the Cannes Film Festival Jury

Exciting news from the Cannes Film Festival as Moroccan director, screenwriter, and producer Asmae El-Moudir joins the Un Certain Regard jury at the 77th edition of the event, happening from May 14-25.

El-Moudir will be part of a stellar lineup that includes French Senegalese screenwriter and director Maïmouna Doucouré, German Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps, and American film critic, director, and writer Todd McCarthy. Leading the jury will be none other than Xavier Dolan.

This talented team will be responsible for awarding prizes for the Un Certain Regard section, showcasing art and discovery films by emerging auteurs. The selection includes 18 works, including eight debut films.

El-Moudir is best known for her work on “The Mother of All Lies,” a critically acclaimed film that won the Un Certain Regard section and the prestigious L’oeil d’Or prize for best documentary at the festival in 2023. The film delves into El-Moudir’s personal journey, uncovering her family’s history amidst the 1981 bread riots in Casablanca.

But El-Moudir is not the only Arab talent making waves at Cannes. Moroccan Belgian actress Lubna Azabal has been appointed as the president of the Short Film and La Cinef Jury, which focuses on films from film schools.
