Meet the Jordanian Photographer Capturing the Beauty of Arab World’s Beloved Creatures

Riyadh Gallery Showcases the Enduring Bond of Arabian Horses and Hunting Falcons

In a tribute to the historical and cultural significance of the Arabian horse and hunting falcon in the Arab world, a Riyadh gallery is currently featuring a series of portrait studies by Tariq Dajani, a Jordanian photographer and printmaker.

Photographic Celebration of Magnificent Creatures

Arabian horses have long been revered in songs and poetry for their unique qualities, and Dajani, as an owner of Arabians himself, chose to capture their beauty through his lens and artwork.

After spending years photographing horses in Jordan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, Dajani expanded his project to include the hunting falcon, symbolizing cultural heritage and pride among Arabs.

Exhibition at Ahlam Gallery in Riyadh

Dajani’s first exhibition of the horse and falcon series, titled “Drinkers of the Wind,” is currently on display at Ahlam Gallery in Al-Olaya, Riyadh, showcasing 16 years’ worth of work capturing these magnificent creatures.

Studio Portrait Approach

Unlike traditional approaches, Dajani takes a studio portrait approach to his subjects, setting up his studio in stables or falcon sheds to carefully study and capture the essence of the creatures.

His goal is not just to document the animals but to establish an emotional connection and express their unique qualities through his art.

Support from Princess Alia Al-Hussein

During his time in Jordan, Dajani received support from Princess Alia Al-Hussein, who granted him access to the Royal Jordanian Stud for his project. Her encouragement and support have been instrumental in the success of his exhibitions.

Capturing Moments of Beauty and Connection

One of the most memorable moments captured by Dajani was when two mares greeted each other with a gentle touch of their heads, showcasing a moment of unexpected beauty and connection.

Through high-quality photographic color prints and photogravure prints, Dajani’s exhibition brings to life the elegance and grace of Arabian horses and hunting falcons, paying homage to their significance in Arab culture and heritage.
