Riyadh Celebrates 248th US Independence Day Anniversary with Space-Themed Reception

The US Embassy in Riyadh pulled out all the stops to celebrate the 248th anniversary of Independence Day, with a reception hosted by US Ambassador Michael Ratney. 

Guests of honor included Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Riyadh Region mayor, as well as Saudi officials, hundreds of Saudi guests, and visitors from Washington, including members of the US Congress. 

The space-themed Independence Day reception was a symbolic nod to the future of US-Saudi cooperation in space, showcasing the endless possibilities of space exploration, research, and commercial development.

Ratney emphasized the shared ambition of both countries to seize opportunities in space, positioning them as pioneers in the realm of innovation.

The event paid tribute to past space achievements like the 1969 moon landing, while also highlighting ongoing advancements in commercial space exploration.

Notable Saudi figures in space travel, such as Prince Sultan bin Salman, and astronauts Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Al-Qarni, were recognized during the celebration.

An impressive art installation titled “Museum of the Moon” by artist Luke Jerram showcased NASA’s high-definition imagery of the lunar surface.

The US Embassy emphasized that the collaboration between the US and Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen shared interests in diplomacy, commerce, culture, and more.

Both countries are committed to enhancing shared interests in security and promoting prosperity in the region, while also exploring new partnerships in areas like arts, education, entertainment, and tourism.

The future holds potential for even greater cooperation between the US and Saudi Arabia, including possible joint ventures in space, underscoring a vision for a robust US-Saudi relationship in the years to come.
