Saudi Green Building Forum Nearing Permanent Observer Status at UN Convention

In a bold move towards enhancing its role in sustainable development and combating desertification, the Saudi Green Building Forum is on the verge of obtaining permanent observer status at the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.

The final decision on this significant development is expected during the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties scheduled to take place in Riyadh from Dec. 2-13. This move underscores the forum’s commitment to integrating scientific and community-based approaches to environmental management.

According to a press release, the forum, which is currently accredited on a temporary basis, is participating in the proceedings based on the provisions of the convention’s article 22 and internal regulations of the COP.

Faisal Al-Fadl, the secretary-general of the Saudi Green Building Forum, expressed his satisfaction with the official notification from the UN Secretariat regarding the forum’s accreditation process. He highlighted the crucial role of local communities in advancing sustainable development goals through advocating for scientific principles and community well-being.

The UN Secretariat has confirmed the receipt of all necessary documents for the forum’s accreditation as an observer, encouraging continued participation in the convention’s activities. This potential new status as a permanent observer will enable the Saudi Green Building Forum to contribute more effectively to global efforts against desertification and promote cooperation between developed and developing nations in sustainable land management and environmental restoration.
