Exclusive Interview: Floris London CEO Reveals Secrets to Captivating Middle Eastern Scents

Floris London: The Royal Perfumer with a Middle Eastern Twist

In the world of perfumery, Floris London stands out as a true gem. Established in 1730, this British perfume label holds the prestigious distinction of being the only perfumer to hold royal warrants in the UK. With a rich history that includes creating fragrances for luminaries such as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, Floris London has a special interest in the Arab world. Not only does the brand design bespoke fragrances for clients in the region, but it has also unveiled a men’s scent that is exclusive to the Middle East.

Exploring the Scent Palette of the Gulf

Edward Bodenham, the brand director of Floris London, shared insights into the unique preferences of Middle Eastern clients when it comes to fragrances. He noted a trend towards warm, comforting scents with deep notes like rose, patchouli, and precious Cambodian oud oil. The region’s clientele also show an affinity for dynamic notes such as cashmere and smoke, showcasing their forward-thinking taste in perfumery.

Bodenham highlighted the differences between traditionally British scents and those popular in the Gulf, noting that English fragrances tend to be lighter, while French and Italian fragrances are more intense and closer to Middle Eastern preferences.

Santal Intense: A Modern Take on a Classic Fragrance

Floris London’s latest regional offering, Santal Intense, is a reinterpretation of the original Santal Eau de Toilette released in the early 2000s. Bodenham explained that the new fragrance builds on the sandalwood theme of its predecessor, adding notes of green grass, black pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, and tonka bean for a modern twist. By enhancing the levels of amber, woody amber, and frankincense, Santal Intense offers greater depth, longevity, and sillage, creating a captivating olfactory experience.

A Royal Connection

As a holder of royal warrants, Floris London has the honor of being an official supplier to the British royal family, displaying the royal coat of arms on its products. Bodenham emphasized the appeal of this royal connection, highlighting the impartiality of the royal family in choosing to support fragrances from any preferred fragrance house. Unlike celebrity endorsements, the royal warrants symbolize a genuine and prestigious endorsement that adds to the allure of Floris London’s exquisite creations.
