Shocking: Saudi Ministry Cracks Down on Jazan Markets with Mass Inspections

Jazan Ministry Cracks Down on Unfit Fish and Marine Products

In a proactive move, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Jazan has been on a mission to clean up fish and marine product markets in the region. Over the course of four months, thousands of inspections have been carried out to ensure that health requirements, technical standards, and food security regulations are being met.

According to Eng. Mohammad bin Ali Al-Atif, the director of the ministry’s Jazan branch, a total of 3,228 inspections have taken place. During these inspections, a shocking 7,830 kilograms of spoiled fish, farmed crustaceans, and other marine products deemed unfit for human consumption were confiscated and destroyed by field teams.

Moreover, a total of 282 warnings and violations were issued during the inspections. These violations ranged from selling spoiled fish to poor hygiene practices such as not wearing gloves while handling fish, lack of cleanliness, expired health cards, and subpar labor hygiene.

Al-Atif emphasized the importance of continuing these field inspections to maintain food safety standards. He urged workers and investors in the fish and shrimp trade to strictly adhere to all laws and regulations to ensure the health and safety of consumers.
