The Royal Commission for AlUla has outlined a strategic roadmap for the comprehensive development of the area, focusing on tourism, heritage, and nature; local community; and economic diversification. This strategic approach aims to diversify the economy beyond oil and contribute significantly to the national GDP.

Driving Tourism Growth

Phillip Jones, chief tourism officer at RCU, emphasized the importance of AlUla in achieving the tourism objectives set by Saudi Vision 2030. With a projected contribution of SR120 billion ($31 billion) to the Kingdom’s GDP by 2035, AlUla is on track to become a major player in the tourism sector.

Expanding Tourism Infrastructure

The transformative impact of tourism is evident in AlUla, with plans to open two new hotels in 2024, adding to the existing core hotels like Habitas and Banyan Tree. The region is set to welcome more luxury accommodations and attractions in the coming years, further solidifying its position as a global tourism destination.

Sustainable Development Initiatives

RCU’s focus on sustainable development is guided by the AlUla Sustainability Charter, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative. The development of AlUla into a world-class sustainable destination for tourism and investment is a key priority for the region.

Driving Job Creation and Talent Acquisition

As AlUla continues to develop, there will be a tangible impact on talent acquisition and job creation in the region. With plans to create around 40,000 new jobs by 2035, AlUla is poised to become a hub for local and global talent, driving economic growth and diversification.

RCU is developing a future transport model for AlUla, focusing on eco-friendly options and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors. The introduction of a low-carbon tram line and green spaces will contribute to the overall sustainability and attractiveness of AlUla as a destination.
