Arabic Names on the Rise: Muhammad Climbs the Ranks in England and Wales
LONDON: In a recent report by the Office of National Statistics, Muhammad has secured its place as the second most popular name for baby boys in England and Wales in 2022.
According to the Daily Mail, this Arabic name has seen a remarkable surge in popularity over the years, jumping from 20th place in 2012 to its current position.
Not only Muhammad, but variations like Mohammed and Mohammad have also made their mark in the top 100 list of baby boys’ names, ranking 27th and 67th respectively.
Joining the trend are other popular Arabic names for baby boys such as Yusuf (93rd), Musa (99th), and Ibrahim (100th).
On the girls’ side, names like Layla (56th), Maryam (75th), and Fatima (99th) have also made their presence felt.
