Emirati Actress Meera AlMidfa Shines at Cannes with Two Short Films

Dubai: The talented Emirati actress and filmmaker, Meera AlMidfa, is making waves at the Cannes Film Festival with her two short films, “Shame” and “Umm Salama The Matchmaker”.

While not part of the official festival lineup, these films offer a unique perspective on Arab womanhood, each with its own distinct viewpoint and tone.

In “Shame”, AlMidfa portrays a woman attempting to escape her home, only to be confronted by her mother in a tense showdown. Meanwhile, in “Umm Salama The Matchmaker,” she plays the daughter of a matchmaker trying to avoid an arranged marriage.

The film, directed by Maitha Alawadi and written by Sara Al-Sayegh, follows a family as they navigate the chaos of an Eid getaway in Abu Dhabi. With an all-female Emirati creative team behind the production, “Al Eid Eiden” promises to be a hilarious and heartwarming experience.

Despite her success as an actress, AlMidfa is also keen on exploring behind-the-scenes work in filmmaking. With a master’s degree in film directing from the American Film Institute, she is determined to strike a balance between acting and directing in her career.
