Saudi Arabia Leading the Way in Energy Conservation with LED Street Lights

In an unprecedented move, Saudi Arabia is on track to become the first G20 country to implement LED street lights to save energy, according to a senior official from the National Energy Services Co., Tarshid.

During a panel discussion titled “Saudi Vision 2030 Outlook” at the Global Project Management Forum 2024 in Riyadh, Mohammed Muaafa, the technical services director of Tarshid, revealed that the company has spearheaded numerous projects aimed at reducing electricity consumption in commercial and residential buildings across the country.

These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious goal of generating 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

Muaafa proudly stated, “We will be the first country in the G20 to fully transition all street lamps to energy-efficient LED lights.”

Tarshid’s primary focus is to minimize electricity usage and carbon emissions, with the project already leading to a remarkable 70-75 percent energy savings.
