Emirati Designers Win ADMAF x Dolce & Gabbana Design Award 2024
After clinching the prestigious ADMAF x Dolce & Gabbana Design Award 2024, Emirati designers Sarah Al-Mansoori and Azza Al-Tawila are gearing up for an enriching six-month paid internship at the Italian luxury label’s headquarters in Milan. The duo will then unveil their final creations at the Abu Dhabi Festival in 2025.
Shining in Jewelry and Fashion Categories
Sarah Al-Mansoori emerged victorious in the jewelry creations category, while Azza Al-Tawila secured the top spot in the fashion category. This award signifies a collaboration between the Abu Dhabi Music and Art Foundation and the renowned luxury fashion brand, Dolce & Gabbana.
Both talented designers will hone their craft during the internship period. For Al-Mansoori, the upcoming stint symbolizes the beginning of an exciting journey filled with growth opportunities.
An Exciting Journey Ahead
“Each day, I’ll be surrounded by industry professionals who will help me grow my skills. I’m excited to be in the heart of the fashion world, where creativity and innovation are everywhere,” shared Al-Mansoori. “I see myself not only improving my technical abilities but also making valuable connections in the fashion and jewelry production industry.”
On the other hand, Al-Tawila expressed her eagerness to soak in the work culture at Dolce & Gabbana and learn new techniques.
Embracing Cultural Heritage
Al-Tawila emphasized the importance of integrating Emirati heritage into her designs. She aspires to blend her culture with the experience gained during the internship, offering a unique perspective on Emirati identity through her creations.
Both designers have ambitious plans for their showcase at the Abu Dhabi Festival 2025. Al-Tawila aims to draw inspiration from traditional Emirati clothing, incorporating textile patterns, geometric forms, and native techniques into her designs.
Celebrating Emirati Heritage Through Design
Al-Mansoori, on the other hand, plans to create jewelry pieces that pay homage to Emirati heritage. Pearls, symbolizing elegance and grace, will be a central theme in her designs. She also intends to infuse elements of Al-Sadu, a traditional Emirati craft, to blend tradition with modernity and tell a compelling story of Emirati culture.
