Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Participates in BRICS Outreach Meeting in Russia

Riyadh: Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, made his presence known at a BRICS Outreach ministerial meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. The Kingdom was granted the status of a guest country and received an invitation to join the esteemed group.

BRICS: A Union of Emerging Economies

BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, with recent additions of Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the UAE. While Argentina and Saudi Arabia were also invited, the former withdrew its application and the latter is still contemplating membership.

Theme of the Meeting: “BRICS Dialogue with Developing Countries”

The Saudi delegation, led by Prince Faisal, engaged in discussions on the theme of “BRICS Dialogue with Developing Countries.” Other notable Saudi representatives included the ambassador to Russia, Abdulrahman Al-Ahmad, the director general of the foreign minister’s office, Abdulrahman Al-Daoud, and the director general of international organizations, Shaher Al-Khonaini.

High-Level Talks and Diplomatic Engagements

Prince Faisal seized the opportunity to engage in high-level talks with various counterparts. Discussions with Iran’s acting foreign minister, Ali Bagheri, focused on bilateral relations and current events in the Gaza Strip and Rafah.

Separate meetings were also held with the foreign ministers of Thailand and Brazil, Maris Sangiampongsa and Mauro Vieira, respectively. The talks centered on enhancing relations and fostering bilateral and multilateral cooperation on shared interests.

Furthermore, a meeting with Sergei Aleinik, the Belarusian foreign minister, delved into bilateral relations and the latest regional and international developments.
