Hajj Pilgrimage Hits Record High with 1.83 Million Attendees!

The Peak of Hajj: Pilgrims Gather at Mount Arafat for Worship and Reflection

In a powerful display of faith and devotion, Muslims from all corners of the globe gathered at the sacred hill of Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabia amidst scorching temperatures. This ritual, known as the hill of mercy, marks the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage and is a deeply significant moment for pilgrims who come together to seek mercy, blessings, prosperity, and good health from God.

Under the cover of darkness, thousands of pilgrims made their way to Mount Arafat, reciting the sacred words “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik” (O Lord, here I am answering your call) and verses from the Holy Qur’an. The Saudi Press Agency reported a staggering number of 1,833,164 pilgrims in attendance this year.

Amidst the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas conflict, which has brought the Middle East to the brink of regional conflict, pilgrims at Mount Arafat offered prayers for the Palestinians who have suffered at the hands of their oppressors. Imam Maher bin Hamad Al-Mu’wiqly delivered a sermon at the Namira Mosque, calling on pilgrims to pray for those in need and to show compassion and solidarity.

As the scorching heat bore down, most pilgrims sought shelter under umbrellas while others found respite in the shade. The Saudi Health Minister reported that over 150 pilgrims had been treated for heat exhaustion, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated and protected from the sun.

At sunset, pilgrims left Mount Arafat to make their way to Muzdalifah, where they would collect pebbles for the symbolic stoning of pillars representing the devil in Mina. This marks the beginning of the three-day celebration of Eid Al-Adha in Mina before returning to Makkah for the Farewell Tawaf. As the Hajj comes to a close, men shave their heads and women snip a lock of hair in a symbolic act of renewal.
