Record-breaking Telephone Calls Made by Pilgrims During Eid Al-Adha

In a remarkable display of connectivity, pilgrims in Makkah and at the holy sites set a new record by making 44.8 million telephone calls on Sunday during Eid Al-Adha, as reported by Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission.

The breakdown of the calls showed that 38.04 million were local calls, while 6.76 million were international calls, all with a remarkable success rate of over 99 percent.

Alongside the impressive number of calls, pilgrims also consumed a staggering 5,790 terabytes of data during the holiday period. To put this into perspective, this amount of data is equivalent to streaming over 2.37 million hours of high-definition, 1080p video.

The data usage per subscriber was equally impressive, with an average daily consumption of 779.93 megabytes, surpassing the global average of 380MB by more than double.

The mobile internet infrastructure in place managed to deliver an average data download speed of 376.18 megabits per second and an average upload speed of 48.04Mbps, showcasing the efficiency of the system during this high-demand period.
