JEDDAH CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA WITH A HOLISTIC APPROACH

JEDDAH: June 21 marked the 10th International Day of Yoga, celebrated under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society” to highlight the importance of a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

In Riyadh, a celebration was held at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Olympic Complex in collaboration with the Saudi Yoga Committee and the Ministry of Sports of Saudi Arabia. The event was attended by India’s Ambassador to the Kingdom Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, Nouf Al-Marwaai, president of the Saudi Yoga Committee and Padma Shri Awardee, and Rajashree Choudhary, president of the International Yoga Sports Federation.

The celebration included a Yogasana session led by the renowned SYC instructor Alhanouf Saad.

Al-Marwaai expressed her joy and pride in welcoming attendees to the event, emphasizing the growth of yoga in Saudi Arabia and its benefits to the mind, body, and spirit.

Choudhary, visiting Saudi Arabia for the first time, highlighted the increasing popularity of yoga in the country and the importance of incorporating it into daily life. She praised Al-Marwaai for her contribution to promoting yoga in Saudi Arabia and expressed optimism for the future of yoga in the Kingdom.

She also discussed the IYSF’s cooperation with the SYC to develop Yogasana into an official Olympic sport and promote interest in yoga globally.

As part of the celebrations, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh organized a seminar on June 20 in collaboration with the SYC and the Ministry of Sports, featuring documentaries on the history of yoga and the International Day of Yoga.

The International Day of Yoga was designated by the UN in December 2014 to raise global awareness of the benefits of yoga practice.
