Saudi Arabia to Host 56th International Chemistry Olympiad

Riyadh is gearing up to welcome more than 340 students and 400 university professors and chemistry teachers from 90 countries for the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

Prestigious Event at King Saud University

Running from July 21-30 at King Saud University, this prestigious event is organized by the Ministry of Education and King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, with exclusive sponsorship from the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation.

A Global Chemistry Competition

The International Chemistry Olympiad is a global competition where talented high-school students showcase their chemistry skills. It aims to inspire interest in the subject, promote international communication in the field, and foster friendships among young science enthusiasts from different nationalities.

Saudi Arabia’s First Time Hosting

This will be the first time Saudi Arabia hosts the event, showcasing the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting talent, science, and innovation in alignment with Vision 2030 goals.

Preparations by Mawhiba

Secretary-General of Mawhiba, Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazzaa, highlighted the organization’s preparation efforts for the event, including coordination with partners, training talented students, and aiming for new milestones for the nation.

International Recognition for Saudi Arabia

The International Steering Committee for the International Chemistry Olympiad commended Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive preparations during their recent visit to Riyadh, where they launched an awareness campaign for the event in January.

Success at Previous Events

Saudi Arabia has a track record of success at the Chemistry Olympiad, with 14 silver and 25 bronze medals in the past. The Saudi team also secured four prestigious awards at the 2023 International Chemistry Olympiad in Switzerland.
