Unveiling Saudi Arabia’s groundbreaking renewable energy quest in record-breaking survey!

Saudi Arabia Launches World’s Largest Renewable Energy Survey

In a groundbreaking announcement, Saudi Arabia has revealed plans for the world’s largest renewable energy survey, featuring the installation of 1,200 measuring stations.

Unprecedented Geographic Survey Project for Renewable Energy

Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Al-Saud inaugurated the Geographic Survey Project for Renewable Energy, emphasizing its unprecedented scope and aim to identify optimal sites for solar and wind power initiatives across the Kingdom.

Global Significance and National Renewable Energy Program

The minister highlighted the project’s global significance, noting that no other country has undertaken a geographic survey of this magnitude. Part of the National Renewable Energy Program, the survey will cover over 850,000 sq. km, excluding populated regions, sand dunes, and airspace restrictions.

Goal of 50% Renewable Energy Mix by 2030

The initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s goal of having renewable power sources account for about 50 percent of the energy mix for electricity production by 2030. It will also support the nation’s Liquid Fuel Displacement Program, aiming to displace 1 million barrels per day of liquid fuels by 2030.

Massive Renewable Energy Projects by 2030

Starting in 2024, Saudi Arabia plans to launch new renewable energy projects with an annual capacity of 20 gigawatts, with a target of reaching between 100 and 130 GW by 2030, depending on electricity demand.

Data Collection and Monitoring

The project’s initial phase will involve deploying stations across designated areas to gather comprehensive data, with a focus on solar and wind energy measurements. The collected data will be monitored, recorded, and transmitted through a platform by the ministry, utilizing artificial intelligence to assess and rank sites for renewable energy projects.

Financeable Data and Accelerated Project Execution

The accuracy and continuous updating of the project’s data make it financeable according to local and international standards. This will expedite the allocation of land lots for renewable energy projects and streamline initiative announcement and execution, reducing the current waiting period for data acquisition.

Commitment to Renewable Energy Targets

The minister emphasized that the project underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ambitious renewable energy targets, including the production and export of eco-friendly energy and clean hydrogen.
