Saudi Fund for Development CEO Attends OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna

In a bid to support countries in achieving Sustainable Development Goals and address current global challenges, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, participated in Vienna’s OPEC Fund Development Forum.

During the forum, Al-Marshad engaged with energy partners to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and finance development sectors. The one-day event brought together government leaders, heads of institutions, and practitioners from the international development community to explore opportunities for delivering transformative and sustainable development under the theme “Driving Resilience and Equity.”

Meetings with Government Officials

Al-Marshad met with several government officials on the sidelines of the forum, including President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe of Sri Lanka, Minister of State for Finance Hussain Sham Adam of Maldives, and Minister of Finance Bihi Egeh of Somalia.

Discussions revolved around the SFD’s development projects and programs being implemented in these countries, as well as ways to enhance cooperation in financing vital sectors. The parties also reviewed the existing relations between the fund and the respective countries.

Decades of Development Support

Over the past 50 years, the Saudi Fund for Development has played a significant role in financing projects and programs in Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. The fund’s contributions have supported social growth and economic prosperity in these beneficiary communities as they strive towards sustainable development goals, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
