Saudi Arabia Intensifies Fight Against Drug Trafficking

In a bold move to combat drug use and trafficking, Saudi Arabia has ramped up its efforts to crack down on those involved in the illicit drug trade.

Commander Colonel Omar bin Aida Al-Talhi of the National Center for Security Operations declared the initiative’s mission to “eliminate” drugs and shield society, especially its youth, from the harmful effects of substance abuse.

Aligned with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, established by the UN in 1987 and observed every June 26, World Anti-Drug Day serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of drugs on nations, communities, and individuals.

Colonel Al-Talhi stressed the importance of collaboration between society and security forces in reporting drug-related activities, which has resulted in thwarting the dangers posed by drug smugglers and dealers.

Jazan Governor Prince Mohammed bin Nasser kickstarted the World Anti-Drug Day activities under the theme “The Evidence is Clear … Let’s Invest in Prevention” at the Prince Sultan Cultural Center, featuring an exhibition to raise awareness about the health, social, and cultural consequences of drug abuse.

Highlighting the global challenge posed by the drug trade, Director of Public Security Lt. Gen. Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Bassami emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and preserving national security.

Under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud, the Kingdom’s anti-drug campaign has yielded promising results, with security forces dedicated to shielding society, particularly the youth, from the harmful effects of drugs.

On World Anti-Drug Day, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Security Regiment Affairs, Maj. Gen. Awad bin Mashouh Al-Enezi, reiterated the ministry’s unwavering efforts to combat drug-related crimes and hold perpetrators accountable.

Director General of the Border Guard Maj. Gen. Shayea bin Salem Al-Wadaani lauded Saudi Arabia’s robust measures in combating drugs and safeguarding society from the perils of drug trafficking.
