Exploring Nature and Promoting Environmental Awareness in Jazan: A Two-Day Adventure
In a thrilling two-day event organized by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, over 100 hiking and mountain climbing enthusiasts embarked on a journey to explore nature while spreading environmental awareness in Jazan.
The initiative, named “Walking in Nature’s Embrace,” concluded on Sunday and took place in Wadi Lajab National Park and the Al-Qahar mountains of Jazan’s Al-Raith governorate as part of Saudi Summer 2024.
Hikers followed designated paths that showcased historical landmarks and ancient rock inscriptions while engaging in volunteer activities and spreading environmental awareness messages with the slogan “Naturally Beautiful,” using QR codes they carried.
The program provided locals and visitors with opportunities for volunteering, such as tree maintenance, clean-up campaigns, and environmental education, all aimed at promoting environmentally conscious behavior and fostering community engagement.
The ‘Walking in Nature’s Embrace’ initiative is part of Saudi Summer 2024 and is being held in various national parks of the Kingdom.
Abdulkarim Tayyash, a local environmental enthusiast, praised the region’s unique charm, highlighting the summer atmosphere and stunning nature of the Al-Qahar mountains and Wadi Lajab as a top experience for tourists and visitors in Jazan.
Tayyash expressed his love for mountain hiking and encourages his children to embrace the passion as well, making daily walks in Al-Raith a family tradition. The picturesque mountain chains in the area offer a perfect setting for leisurely strolls and challenging climbs.
Visiting the enchanting waterfalls in Wadi Lajab is always a rewarding experience, according to Tayyash.
Issa Al-Qarbi, a vegetation expert, emphasized the importance of the initiative in raising environmental awareness and preserving natural assets in the Al-Qahar mountains. The region’s diverse terrain and dense vegetation make it a haven for nature lovers and adventurers seeking unique ecological experiences.
The moderate climate of the Al-Qahar and Al-Raith mountains, compared to the coastal areas, makes them attractive destinations during the summer months, offering wildlife, birds, waterfalls, and streams for visitors to enjoy.
