Meet Amr Atiah: KAUST’s New VP of Campus and Community

In a bold move this June, Amr Atiah took on the role of vice president of campus and community at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST).

Atiah’s mission? To revolutionize campus and community services at KAUST, aligning strategies with the university’s overarching goals, vision, mission, and values.

From overseeing facilities management to community engagement, Atiah’s responsibilities are vast and varied. Maintenance, operations, janitorial services, waste management, space planning, accommodation, events management, retail, catering, recreation, daycare, logistics, transport, travel, community communications, and customer experience all fall under his purview.

From Coral Nurseries to Smart Homes: Atiah’s Journey at KAUST

Before his current role, Atiah served as director of special projects at KAUST, where he played a crucial role in the development of the world’s largest coral nursery in collaboration with NEOM under Saudi Vision 2030.

His career at KAUST spans various leadership positions, including director of facilities management in operations and maintenance. During his tenure, he drove significant cost savings through organizational restructuring and energy efficiency initiatives.

From Engineer to Innovator: Atiah’s Career Trajectory

Atiah’s career began at Saudi Aramco as an instrumentation engineer, later transitioning to leadership roles at Ras Tanura Refinery. His international experience includes an 18-month internship at Emerson Process Management in Houston, where he honed his skills as an applications engineer.

Atiah’s innovative spirit shines through in his contributions to sustainability initiatives and smart technology projects at KAUST, including the Smart Home pilot program.

Education and Leadership: Atiah’s Credentials

Atiah holds an MBA in leadership studies from Baker College, Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Louisiana State University. He has also completed leadership programs at London Business School and INSEAD.

As a member of the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation’s 2030 Leaders program and a board member of KAUST’s startup Talon Dust Control, Atiah continues to drive innovation and excellence in his professional endeavors.
