SDAIA’s groundbreaking data protection campaign!

Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority Launches Data Protection Awareness Campaign

In a groundbreaking move, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority has kicked off a data protection awareness campaign in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This initiative, known as the “Understand Your Data” campaign, is spearheaded by Al-Rabdi bin Fahd Al-Rabdi, the head of the SDAIA’s National Data Management Office.

The primary objective of this campaign is to educate the public about the Saudi personal data protection system and their associated rights. Al-Rabdi emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal data, highlighting instances of data disclosure and the responsibilities of entities governed by the system’s regulations.

Through this campaign, the authority aims to underscore the rights of data holders, including the right to understand the purpose behind data processing, the right to request modifications to personal data, and the right to demand the deletion of data when necessary.

Al-Rabdi urged individuals to exercise caution when divulging personal information to entities that store their data, stressing the need for vigilance in data sharing practices.

The Saudi Personal Data Protection Law, which took effect on September 14 last year, granted entities covered by its provisions a one-year grace period to align their data systems with the new regulations. The launch of this awareness campaign marks a significant step toward enhancing data protection practices in the Kingdom.
