Discover the Ancient Secrets of Saudi Arabia’s Baha Rock Inscriptions!

Riyadh’s Book Plateau: A Cultural Gem in Baha Region

In the heart of Saudi Arabia’s Baha region lies the captivating “Book Plateau,” a must-see destination drawing visitors from far and wide. Nestled in Baljurashi, this archaeological wonder epitomizes the rich cultural tapestry of the area.

Situated at the confluence of two streams at the foot of Wadi Khara, the site has been compared to the pages of an open book and earned its name from the ancient inscriptions adorning its surface, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

Believed to date back 1,400 years, the carvings feature early Islamic inscriptions without diacritical marks, some of which bear the names of the Prophet’s companions and followers.

Nearby, a rock formation resembling a palm displays different inscriptions. At the top of Mihras Mountain, five graves can be found, two of which are notably elevated. Though their exact history and occupants are shrouded in mystery, it is speculated that they belonged to past inhabitants of the area.

Abdulrahman Al-Ghamdi, director general of the Heritage Authority in Baha, revealed that the site was added to the National Antiquities Register in 2005 after a thorough survey. The inscriptions, etched onto granite rock faces, serve as poignant reminders of the area’s historic significance.

Baha’s summer season is luring both local and international visitors to its heritage villages and ancient archaeological sites. These attractions play a vital role in driving the local economy and align with the Kingdom’s ambitious tourism goals.

They not only provide a glimpse into the region’s historic legacy but also serve as a legacy for generations to come.
