Discover ‘Hope in Dystopia’ exhibit: World Falling Apart!

Beirut’s Dalloul Art Foundation Showcases “Hope in an Age of Dystopia”

In a powerful display of creativity and resilience, Beirut’s Dalloul Art Foundation presents its latest exhibition, “Hope in an Age of Dystopia,” featuring 66 works from artists across the Arab world and beyond. From the captivating pieces by Lebanese artists Hady Sy and Selim Mawad to the thought-provoking work of Palestinian Amer Shomali, this event is a must-see in Beirut until Aug. 15. The exhibition also highlights the artistry of Lebanese-Canadian creative Johanne Allard.

Director of Dalloul Art Foundation Wafa Roz passionately expressed how the exhibition reflects the current state of the world, one that feels like it’s crumbling. Despite the challenges faced in recent years, there is a glimmer of hope that shines through. Roz emphasized how the artworks shed light on how global power dynamics impact people’s lives, shaping their experiences, desires, and emotions.

Allard’s series, “A Feast In The Ruins,” seamlessly fits into the exhibition’s theme. Through her use of embroidery on metal sculptures of moths, Allard symbolizes the destruction of cultural and societal fabrics caused by war and imperialism in the Levant and MENA regions. Her work acts as a poignant reminder of the past while critiquing ongoing systemic issues, all while infusing elements of hope and resilience.

“Hope in an Age of Dystopia” serves as a call to acknowledge the challenges of our time without succumbing to despair. It encourages viewers to confront harsh realities, envision new possibilities, and actively contribute to change, where hope triumphs over uncertainties. Roz noted the evolving trends in the art world, with a shift towards more conceptual works that delve deeper into complex themes and concepts.

The exhibition is a testament to the power of art to provoke thought, inspire change, and offer a glimmer of hope in a world that often feels dystopian. Visit the Dalloul Art Foundation in Beirut to immerse yourself in this captivating showcase of creativity and resilience.
