Gear Up for Shrimp Season with Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province Fishermen! 🦐🎣

Fishing Season in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province: Shrimp Season Approaches

As the countdown begins for the start of the shrimp season on August 1st, fishermen in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province are gearing up for six months of intense fishing along the Arabian Gulf coasts. Stretching over 1,000 km from Khafji Governorate in the north to Uqair Governorate in the south, this season promises to be a fruitful one.

A total of 710 fishing boats have been authorized for the 2024 season, ranging from large vessels to small fishing boats. These boats will be strategically distributed across various ports along the coast: 30 at Manifa port, 20 at Safaniya port, 330 at Jubail port, 160 at Qatif port, and 170 at Darin Island port.

Fahd bin Ahmed Al-Hamzi, the director of the Eastern Province Branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to providing top-quality services to fishermen. With reduced processing times for shrimp fishing permits and the introduction of online applications, the ministry is streamlining the process for fishermen.

In addition to these efforts, the region will witness the development of new fishing ports as part of a ministry project. Furthermore, a scheme to supply and install engines and emergency radios for fishing boats aims to enhance safety measures for fishermen at sea.

Saudi Arabia’s dedication to protecting sustainable fish stocks and supporting the livelihoods of fishermen is evident through investments in aquaculture projects. As the shrimp season approaches, the Kingdom remains steadfast in its commitment to the fishing industry and the preservation of marine resources.
