In a bustling year for Saudi tourism, the Kingdom welcomed a total of 8.6 million visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in 2023. Among them, Bahraini travelers accounted for a significant 3.4 million of the total, showcasing the strong bond between the two nations.

Key Visitor Statistics

According to the Ministry of Tourism, 2.3 million travelers crossed over from Kuwait, followed by 1.3 million from the UAE, and 1.09 million from Qatar. Additionally, 455,000 travelers from Oman explored the wonders of Saudi Arabia last year.

Growth in Tourism Sector

With a clear focus on economic diversification, Saudi Arabia is actively strengthening its tourism sector. The National Tourism Strategy aims to attract 150 million visitors by 2030, with a goal of increasing the sector’s contribution to GDP from 6 percent to 10 percent.

Minister’s Perspective

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb expressed his delight at the sector’s growth and resilience. He emphasized that the statistics not only showcase the success of tourism policies but also highlight the vibrant economic activity spurred by the sector.

Tourism spending among GCC travelers reached an impressive SR15 billion ($4 billion) in 2023. This influx of tourists has not only boosted local businesses but has also invigorated the national economy, from hospitality to retail.
