King Abdulaziz Public Library Bridges Saudi Culture with Chinese Readers
In an effort to introduce Saudi culture to Chinese-speaking audiences, King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh has launched a groundbreaking publishing program.
Translating Saudi Works into Chinese
The library has carefully selected a series of scientific, cultural, and literary works in Arabic to be translated into multiple languages, including Chinese.
The goal of this initiative is to provide Chinese readers with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary Saudi culture, as stated in an official announcement.
Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s Encyclopedia and Trade Relations
One of the prominent works translated into Chinese is the first volume of “The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Saudi Arabia,” marking the beginning of a project to translate all 20 volumes of the encyclopedia.
These volumes will delve into the history, archeology, culture, and geography of all regions of the Kingdom, covering various aspects such as economy, social patterns, customs, traditions, tourism, and wildlife.
The library has also translated “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People’s Republic of China: A History of Trade Relations between China and the Arabian Peninsula,” shedding light on the historical trade ties between the two nations and their scientific achievements.
Exploring Saudi Women’s Rights and Traditions
Among the works selected for translation into Chinese is Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mana’s book “In the Footsteps of Al-Mutanabbi,” which traces the poet’s journey through different locations during the Abbasid era.
Additionally, the library is translating works like “Modern Woman in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Rights Challenges and Achievements” by Hend Al-Sudairy, which delves into the social and economic contributions of Saudi women.
Other works to be translated include “The Art of Sadu between the Past and the Present,” “Saudi Landmarks and Places,” and “Traditional Jewelry of Women in Central Arabian Peninsula.”
Introducing Saudi Children’s Stories to Chinese Readers
In a bid to educate young Chinese readers about Saudi Arabia’s rich history and culture, the library has translated 11 children’s stories from Arabic to Chinese.
Promoting Saudi, Arab, and Islamic Culture in China
Since its establishment at Peking University in China six years ago, King Abdulaziz Public Library has been actively involved in various activities to introduce Chinese audiences to different aspects of Saudi, Arab, and Islamic culture.
These initiatives include organizing seminars and workshops on traditional Saudi arts and the Arabic language.
