Rare release: 20+ spiny-tailed lizards roam free in prestigious reserve

Riyadh Welcomes More Than 20 Spiny-Tailed Lizards into King Khalid Royal Reserve

In an exciting development, more than 20 spiny-tailed lizards have been released into the King Khalid Royal Reserve, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

This initiative is part of a collaborative program between the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve Development Authority and the National Center for Wildlife. The goal is to bolster the population of these unique reptiles, which have been classified as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

This release is just one component of a broader effort to protect endangered species in accordance with the national environment conservation strategy and the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030.

Working closely with the NCW, the authority has already released several endangered species back into their natural habitats, including the Arabian sand gazelle, mountain gazelle, Arabian oryx, and Nubian ibex.
