Massive Crackdown: Over 20,000 Arrested in Saudi Arabia for Violating Residency and Border Laws

In a bold move to enforce immigration laws, Saudi authorities have rounded up a staggering 20,471 individuals within just one week. These arrests were made for various offenses related to residency, work, and border security, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency over the weekend.

The official report revealed that out of the total arrests, 12,972 individuals were apprehended for violating residency regulations, while 4,812 were captured for attempting illegal border crossings. Additionally, 2,687 individuals were taken into custody for labor-related infractions.

Of particular note, the report highlighted that 1,050 individuals were caught attempting to enter the Kingdom unlawfully. Among them, a staggering 62% were Ethiopian nationals, followed by 36% Yemenis, with the remaining 2% belonging to other nationalities.

Furthermore, 61 individuals were intercepted while trying to cross into neighboring countries, and an additional 20 were arrested for aiding and abetting violators by providing transportation and shelter.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior issued a stern warning, stating that anyone found facilitating illegal entry into the Kingdom could face severe consequences. This includes up to 15 years of imprisonment, fines reaching up to SR1 million ($260,000), and the confiscation of vehicles and property.

To crack down on suspected violations, individuals can report any suspicious activities by calling the toll-free number 911 in the Makkah and Riyadh regions, or 999/996 in other areas across the Kingdom.
