Saudi Delegation Attends Global Anti-Corruption Meeting in Beijing

In an effort to combat corruption on a global scale, a delegation from Saudi Arabia led by Mazin Al-Kahmous, president of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, is currently participating in the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities plenary meeting in Beijing, China. The meeting is scheduled to take place from Sept. 24 to 27.

During the meeting, Al-Kahmous expressed gratitude to China for hosting the event and emphasized the network’s dedication to addressing the ever-evolving challenges posed by corruption, including issues such as money laundering and the illicit use of virtual currency.

Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening collaboration in the fight against transnational corruption, Al-Kahmous reiterated the country’s determination to pursue corrupt individuals and track illicit funds.

Al-Kahmous also underscored the invaluable benefits that the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority has derived from its participation in the GlobE Network, particularly in terms of cooperation with international counterparts and the exchange of information on suspected entities.

The GlobE Network, which was initially launched by Saudi Arabia during the 2020 G20 Summit, received official endorsement from the United Nations on Dec. 17, 2021, at the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption held in Egypt.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commended the Kingdom for its pivotal role in establishing the network during the 2021 UN General Assembly special session on corruption.

Furthermore, Spain has been appointed as the chair of the network’s steering committee, with Saudi Arabia assuming the role of vice chair. Over the past three years, a total of 219 anti-corruption agencies and international organizations from more than 120 countries have joined the network, signaling the remarkable success of this initiative.
