‘Biomimicry III’
Iraqi-American artist Vian Sora’s latest exhibition, “House of Pearls,” at The Third Line in Dubai, delves into the metaphor of pearls as a symbol of stability and regeneration in life. Sora explores the violent states of nature from which pearls grow, highlighting the cyclical nature of existence.
‘Olivine’
Having fled her hometown of Baghdad after the US invasion of Iraq, Sora incorporates her immigrant and war survivor experiences into her art. “House of Pearls” reflects on the uncertainties and boundaries of existence, capturing the emotional toll of crossing nations, cultures, and time.
‘Exhale’
Sora’s artwork in “House of Pearls” starts with three colors and gradually expands to up to 20 colors in a single piece. Her pieces depict imaginary landscapes and distorted Arabic calligraphy, aiming to convey the vulnerability and courage of displaced individuals. Through abstraction, Sora delves into the subconscious to create a unique and powerful artistic expression.
