Riyadh Launches National Afforestation Season with a Vision for the Future
In a bold move towards environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in collaboration with the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, kicked off the National Afforestation Season in Riyadh. The theme for this year is “We Plant for Our Future.”
CEO Stresses Importance of Afforestation for Sustainable Ecosystems
CEO Khalid Al-Abdulqader of the NCVC highlighted the critical need to raise awareness about afforestation and support efforts to enhance vegetation cover and combat land degradation. Through this season, the focus is on promoting the cultivation of local plants to improve biodiversity and sustainable ecosystems in the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambitious Goal for Green Initiative
Saudi Arabia is making significant strides towards its ambitious goal of planting 10 billion trees and rehabilitating 40 million hectares as part of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI). Achieving this goal will require strong partnerships with both public and private sectors, as well as promoting volunteerism to drive sustainable development.
Driving a Culture of Tree Planting in Saudi Arabia
The National Afforestation Season aims to instill a culture of tree planting in Saudi Arabia, with a focus on increasing vegetation cover, reducing land degradation, and growing more local plants. This initiative represents a new phase in environmental protection efforts, building on the success of previous partnerships that have seen over 95 million trees planted across the country.
Addressing Environmental Challenges Through Afforestation
Saudi Arabia’s push for afforestation is a response to pressing environmental challenges, including climate change and drought. By planting trees, the country aims to lower regional temperatures and mitigate the severity of drought. This initiative comes ahead of the 16th UN Convention to Combat Desertification COP16, which Saudi Arabia will host in December.
