Nigeria-Saudi Arabia Relations Flourishing, Says Outgoing Ambassador
In a heartfelt declaration, outgoing Ambassador Yahaya Lawal expressed his deep satisfaction with the progress of Nigeria’s relations with Saudi Arabia.
Lawal, in an exclusive interview with Arab News, described Saudi Arabia as his “second home,” emphasizing the fruitful nature of his diplomatic assignment in the country.
Reflecting on his time in Saudi Arabia, Lawal stated, “I feel extremely humbled to have served in a very important strategic country like Saudi Arabia.”
Highlighting the longstanding ties between the two nations, Lawal emphasized the cordial and friendly nature of the relationship, rooted in centuries-old economic and socio-cultural connections.
During his tenure, Lawal noted the high-level visits between the two countries, including hosting two Nigerian presidents and facilitating bilateral talks between government officials.
One significant milestone was the visit of Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to Nigeria in 2021, underscoring the mutual commitment to strengthening ties.
The Nigeria-Saudi Arabia Joint Commission meetings held in Abuja and Riyadh served as a platform for enhancing cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, security, and technology.
Lawal praised the excellent political cooperation between the two nations, highlighting the regular exchange of views and consultations on mutual interests.
Looking back on his achievements during his tenure, Lawal expressed confidence that the accomplishments made will solidify the relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia for years to come.
