Saudi Arabia Continues to Excel in Maritime Connectivity
In a remarkable achievement, Saudi Arabia has once again surpassed 240 points on the UN index measuring maritime connectivity, demonstrating significant improvements in shipping services for the fifth consecutive quarter.
Scoring an impressive 248 points in the first quarter of the year, the Kingdom has maintained this high level of performance since the beginning of 2023. This latest accolade on the UN’s Conference on Trade and Development’s Liner Shipping Connectivity Index marks a remarkable 30 percent increase since the launch of Vision 2030 in January 2016.
The Saudi Ports Authority, also known as Mawani, proudly announced this achievement, emphasizing the seamless flow of cargo and the resilience of supply chains and logistic services. This accomplishment is a testament to Mawani’s dedication to upholding its milestones, evident in the launch of 31 new shipping services in collaboration with major global shipping lines in 2023, with an additional seven services introduced since the start of 2024.
Furthermore, Mawani highlighted its efforts in establishing nine integrated logistic zones and centers at key ports such as Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, and King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu. These initiatives, developed in partnership with leading national and international companies, have attracted investments exceeding SR6 billion ($1.6 billion), underscoring Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing its maritime connectivity and logistics infrastructure.
