Race to the Finish Line: National Horse Blankets Design Competition

As the deadline for the inaugural National Horse Blankets Design competition approaches, excitement is mounting in Riyadh. Launched by the Ministry of Culture on Jan. 21, the competition challenges participants to create stunning designs for blankets that will adorn horses at major race events in the Kingdom.

Prize Fund of SR600,000 up for Grabs

With a total prize fund of SR600,000 ($160,000) at stake, the competition has attracted the attention of creatives across Saudi Arabia. The deadline for entries is March 31, with judging set to begin on April 11 and winners announced at the end of May.

Categories Galore: Muneefa, Al-Asmaa, Ya’bob, and Al-Motref

The competition is open to Saudi nationals and is divided into four categories: Muneefa, Al-Asmaa, Ya’bob, and Al-Motref. Each category offers a chance for designers to showcase their talents and win cash prizes.

From Rich Culture to Rapid Achievements

Entries in the Muneefa category should capture the essence of Saudi Arabia’s rich culture and history, while designs in the Al-Asmaa category draw inspiration from the Kingdom’s ancient civilizations. The Ya’bob category challenges participants to embody the Kingdom’s pioneering spirit, and the Al-Motref category encourages designers to incorporate ideas from the ministry’s 16 cultural sectors.

A Platform for Creativity

Saudi plastic artist Najla Al-Saleem, a member of the Visual Arts Society, emphasized the importance of competitions like this in fostering creativity. She described the competition as a “beautiful proposal” that offers artists the opportunity to showcase their ideas and contribute to the cultural value of horses in Saudi society.

The Ministry of Culture stated that the competition aims to cultivate a vibrant and creative atmosphere that encourages practitioners and talented individuals to design unique cultural products.
