Saudi-Japanese Collaboration Unveils Second Season of “Future Folktales” at Anime Convention
The dynamic Saudi production company Manga Productions and the esteemed Japanese company Toei Animation made a splash in Tokyo over the weekend by announcing the upcoming release of the second season of “Future Folktales,” set to air this year – a thrilling return after a four-year hiatus since the debut of the first season.
The captivating anime follows the adventures of an elderly woman named Asmaa, portrayed by the legendary Japanese voice actress Masako Nozawa, as she regales her three grandchildren with enchanting Arab folktales. The first season captivated audiences worldwide, amassing over 100 million views.
Excitement reached a fever pitch at AnimeJapan 2024, one of Tokyo’s premier anime conventions, where Manga Productions proudly revealed both Japanese and Arabic posters for the highly anticipated second season at their booth.
The upcoming season will transport viewers to the Saudi industrial city of NEOM, specifically in the vibrant locale of Oxagon, an announcement that stems from Manga Productions’ exclusive partnership with NEOM that was established in 2020.
This collaboration marks a continued partnership between Manga Productions and Toei Animation, following their successful ventures with the animations “The Woodcutter’s Treasure” in 2017 and the film “The Journey” in 2021.
Moreover, Toei Animation has expanded its reach in Saudi Arabia by teaming up with Qiddiya Investment Co. to develop the world’s first “Dragon Ball” theme park within the Kingdom, showcasing the enduring popularity and influence of Japanese animation in the region.
