Steven Spielberg Speaks Out on Israel-Gaza Conflict and Anti-Semitism
Renowned US filmmaker Steven Spielberg made a powerful statement on the Israel-Gaza conflict and the rise of anti-Semitism while accepting an honor from the University of Southern California.
The Oscar-winning director was recognized for his outstanding work with the USC Shoah Foundation, an organization he established in 1994 to document and preserve testimonies of Holocaust survivors and witnesses.
Spielberg emphasized the importance of listening to the stories of survivors, noting that “the echoes of history are unmistakable in our current climate.”
Addressing the issue of radical views, Spielberg warned that they create “a dangerous environment” that erodes a society’s ability to embrace diversity.
Expressing concern over the increasing incidents of discrimination against Jewish, Muslim, Arab, and Sikh individuals on college campuses, Spielberg stated that he is “increasingly alarmed” at the prospect of Jews having to defend their right to practice their faith.
Spielberg called for unity in condemning acts of terrorism while also advocating for the protection of innocent lives in conflict zones like Gaza. He emphasized the vital role of the Shoah Foundation in promoting understanding and combating hatred.
