Unveiling Saudi Designers: Tradition Meets Modernity

Riyadh Fashion Designers Create Unique Collections for Ramadan

The month of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia is not just about fasting and prayers; it is also a time for Saudis to showcase their style and update their wardrobes with traditional and contemporary fits for iftar and sahoor events.

Abaya designers take this opportunity to introduce new collections specifically for Ramadan, which they promote on social media platforms or at local bazaars. Jana Khojah, a renowned abaya fashion designer, recently launched a collection targeting individuals aged 45 to 60 to expand her brand’s reach.

“We wanted our work to be all handmade with Ramadan pieces, and, of course, we used Swarovski for all our collections. This year we designed handmade bags to suit the atmosphere of Eid and Ramadan,” Khojah shared with Arab News.

During Ramadan and Eid, Khojah’s sales skyrocket by up to 90 percent, with some items selling out quickly due to high demand.

Saudi Designers Embrace Culture and Identity in Ramadan Collections

Another Saudi designer, Sahar Seen, emphasizes that her collection reflects the grace and sophistication of Saudi women’s fashion, aiming to showcase the elegance of local designs.

Ghaim Collection, a Saudi brand, also focuses on symbolizing Arab culture and identity with its unique Ramadan collections.

Experimenting with Traditional Garments for Ramadan

Designers are exploring new colors and designs for the jalabiya, a popular and comfortable traditional garment worn during Ramadan. Sahar Seen’s collection specifically highlights the essence of Saudi women’s fashion.

Bashayer Al-Qounaibet’s Ramadan collection embodies the concept of “azimah,” meaning invitation in Arabic, to capture the spirit of togetherness during the holy month.

Ghada Al-Nuaman introduces a variety of styles in her Ramadan collection, deviating from the traditional jalabiya to offer trousers, dresses, and skirts in different fabrics and colors.

Promoting Saudi Female Designers in the Fashion Industry

With the rise of Saudi female designers, the Fashion Commission has played a significant role in supporting and showcasing their talent through exhibitions and events. This has led to the emergence of unique Saudi designs that blend tradition with modernity.

Stitch Label, a Saudi brand known for its creativity in stitching, presents the Gharza collection, reflecting the elegance of Arab women’s style during Ramadan.

Enhancing Local Fashion Industry During Ramadan

The owners of Stitch Label, Sara and Muneera Al-Yumna, emphasize the importance of launching special collections during Ramadan to express creativity and add Arab touches to the fashion industry. They believe that this not only elevates the local fashion scene but also enhances its global reputation.

Promotion of Traditional Clothing through Unique Events

The Fashion Commission continues to support traditional clothing by organizing events and exhibitions throughout the year, including unique bazaars during Ramadan like the Tashkeela exhibition. This initiative aims to promote local designers and celebrate Saudi culture and identity through fashion.
