QatarEnergy Expands Shipping Fleet to Support Massive LNG Output Increase
In a bold move to prepare for a significant expansion in LNG production, QatarEnergy CEO Saad Al-Kaabi proudly announced the finalization of charter contracts with various Asian ship owners to add 19 LNG vessels to its shipping fleet.
The grand announcement took place at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, where the state-owned company sealed deals to charter six vessels from CMES LNG Carrier Investment, six vessels from Shandong Marine Energy, three vessels from MISC Berhad, and four vessels from Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and Hyundai Glovis.
This latest development comes after QatarEnergy had previously secured contracts for 77 new ships to be constructed at shipyards in Korea and China as part of its initial LNG ship acquisition program.
The expansion of QatarEnergy’s North Field project will solidify its position as the leading LNG exporter in the world. With plans to add eight LNG trains, QatarEnergy aims to increase its liquefaction capacity from 77 million tonnes per annum to a whopping 142 mtpa by 2030, marking an impressive 85 percent surge in production.
