Riyadh’s Sharaan Resort Excavation Marks Milestone for AlUla Development

In an exciting development, the Royal Commission for AlUla has announced the commencement of rock excavation at the site of the 38-suite Sharaan Resort, bringing it one step closer to completion. This marks a significant milestone for the project, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2024.

Revolutionary Construction Techniques on Display

The uniqueness of the Sharaan Resort lies in its excavated areas structured on top of each other, showcasing a blend of ancient practices and modern engineering methods. The Royal Commission and its contractor partners have pushed the boundaries of construction techniques to create habitable spaces that meet modern-day expectations.

Commitment to Sustainability and Vision 2030

Chief Development and Construction Officer at RCU, Ben Hudson, expressed pride in the project, stating that the Sharaan Resort is their most ambitious endeavor yet. The construction process is guided by RCU’s environmental, social, and health impact processes, emphasizing the importance of preserving the unique cultural and natural heritage of AlUla.

Aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the AlUla Sustainability Charter, the development represents RCU’s dedication to eco-conscious building practices and innovative planning. The resort serves as a model for minimizing environmental impact while enhancing the luxury tourism experience in northwest Arabia.

Transforming AlUla into a Global Destination

RCU’s commitment to the Sharaan Resort underscores its goal of turning AlUla into a leading global destination and the world’s largest living museum. By focusing on sustainable hospitality, the project aims to set new standards in the industry.

Partnership with Bouygues Construction

Construction work for the Sharaan Resort began in June, with an agreement signed between RCU officials and Bouygues Construction, a French engineering group managing the project in collaboration with Almabani, a top Saudi engineering firm. Mohammed Altheeb, RCU’s chief development and construction officer, highlighted the resort’s design philosophy rooted in respect for AlUla’s human and natural history, emphasizing a commitment to sustainable building practices.
