Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia: Strengthening Partnerships
In a grand reception at the Culture Palace in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, Tajikistan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of the partnership between the two nations.
Akram M. Karimi, the Tajik ambassador, expressed his country’s eagerness to enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabia at all levels. He highlighted Tajikistan’s 33rd Independence Day and the 30th anniversary of its constitution, emphasizing the nation’s journey towards independence and sovereignty.
Karimi mentioned the pivotal moment of Tajikistan adopting a new constitution through a popular referendum on Nov. 6, 1994, following its independence on Sept. 9, 1991.
Recognizing Saudi Arabia as one of the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Tajikistan, Karimi praised the Kingdom as a significant partner for his country. He emphasized the strong connections between the two nations through organizations like the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Karimi also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s support for Tajikistan’s development through financial institutions like the Islamic Development Bank, the Saudi Fund for Development, and KSrelief. He expressed the desire to enhance trade, economic, and investment cooperation between the two countries, with plans for the upcoming Tajik-Saudi Intergovernmental Commission meeting and a business forum in Riyadh.
Under President Emomali Rahmon, Tajikistan has focused on energy, communications, food security, and industry as priorities for its National Development Strategy through 2030, showcasing progress and development in the country.
The celebration was attended by Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudairy, the undersecretary of the Riyadh region, highlighting the importance of the relationship between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia.
