Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Agricultural Development Co., also known as Tadco, is gearing up to enhance the country’s food security with the construction of high-tech greenhouses.
Partnership for Greenhouse Construction
In a recent announcement on the Saudi Stock Exchange, Tadco revealed the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Greenhouses Management and Agri Marketing Co. The goal is to establish a cooperative partnership to build and manage greenhouses customized to the Kingdom’s climatic conditions.
Optimizing Plant Growth with Technology
High-tech greenhouses utilize advanced technology to regulate conditions like temperature, humidity, light, and irrigation, maximizing plant growth and crop yield while conserving resources such as water and energy. These greenhouses may also incorporate sustainable practices like renewable energy and efficient water management to minimize their environmental impact.
Focus on Research and Development
Under the agreement, the entities will work together to develop the marketing system, conduct research on high-value plant varieties, and cultivate them in Saudi Arabia. The aim is to maximize the benefits of products through manufacturing industries.
Partnership with Topian for Innovation
Tadco recently partnered with Topian, a subsidiary of the Saudi giga-project NEOM, to revolutionize fruit and vegetable production. The collaboration aims to leverage advanced agricultural technologies and practices to enhance domestic food cultivation.
Hydroponic Greenhouse Facility in Tabuk
The MoU between Tadco and Topian will lead to the establishment of a hydroponic greenhouse facility in Tabuk, located in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Hydroponics, a soil-less cultivation method that conserves water resources, can produce fruits, vegetables, and flowers in half the time of traditional agriculture while using significantly less water.
Supporting Sustainable Food Production
The partnership between Tadco and Topian aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s goal of increasing domestic production and implementing sustainable agricultural practices. By investing in green initiatives like high-tech greenhouses and hydroponic technology, Saudi Arabia is taking steps toward sustainable food production and enhancing food security.
