Breaking News: King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah to Enroll Women in Maritime Studies Programs

In a groundbreaking move, Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz University has announced plans to admit women into its maritime studies programs for the first time. This initiative, reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday, is a significant step towards achieving Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of empowering women in new professions and expanding research opportunities in the maritime industry.

Dean of the faculty of maritime studies, Faisal Al-Thobiani, expressed his excitement about the decision, stating that it will unlock women’s potential in the sector, ultimately leading to increased efficiency and sustainability. The university will establish a dedicated agency for female students within the maritime studies faculty to provide them with the necessary support and resources.

The faculty aims to offer world-class education and training in marine surveying and transport, equipping Saudi professionals with the skills needed to contribute to national economic growth. Al-Thobiani emphasized the importance of bridging workforce gaps in the Kingdom’s maritime industry by encouraging more women to join the field, aligning with global trends towards gender equality in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

As Vision 2030 places a strong emphasis on promoting women’s representation across various industries, the decision to enroll women in maritime studies programs at King Abdulaziz University is a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s journey towards gender equality and economic diversification.
