Riyadh Hosts International Symposium on Jerusalem and Gaza War

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) recently hosted a high-profile international symposium at its headquarters in Jeddah, focusing on the critical issues surrounding Jerusalem and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Symposium Title: “Jerusalem and the Gaza War: Palestinian Identity at Risk”

In collaboration with the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the symposium shed light on the threats faced by Palestinians in maintaining their identity and existence amidst escalating tensions.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha emphasized the urgent need to address the dangerous conditions faced by Jerusalem, including Israeli attacks on sacred sites and the infringement on Arab identity through settlement policies and land confiscation.

Jerusalem: A Symbol of Palestinian Territory

Taha reiterated Jerusalem’s status as the capital of Palestine, highlighting the illegal nature of Israeli actions that undermine the rights of the Palestinian people and violate international law and UN resolutions.

The OIC condemned the Israeli military aggression in Gaza, which has led to devastating consequences, including loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement of Palestinians.

International Community Urged to Take Action

Taha called for responsible international intervention to prevent further escalation of conflict and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He expressed disappointment in the UN Security Council’s failure to enforce resolutions calling for a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal.

The Permanent Observer of Palestine to the UN, Riyad Mansour, praised Saudi Arabia’s support for Palestinian rights and efforts to unify Arab and Islamic positions in advocating for an end to aggression in Gaza.

Call for End to Israeli Genocide in Gaza

Mansour urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of halting war crimes and ensuring the protection of Palestinian civilians.
