Breaking News: Riyadh Hosts 56th International Chemistry Olympiad!

International Chemistry Olympiad Kicks Off in Riyadh

The 56th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad got underway in Riyadh on Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Dubbed as one of the largest international chemistry competitions for students in general education, the IChO 2024 will see 333 students from 90 countries competing, judged by 260 chemistry experts.

Organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, known as Mawhiba, in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and King Saud University, the event is exclusively sponsored by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation.

With 35 gold medals, 70 silvers, 110 bronzes, and 10 honorary certificates up for grabs, the competitors are gearing up for tough challenges. The final results of the competition will be announced on July 28.

Established in Prague in 1968, the International Chemistry Olympiad is hosted by a different country each year. Saudi Arabia’s journey in the competition began as an observer in 2004 and 2005, before actively participating from 2006 onwards.

After a brief period of observation from 2008 to 2010, the Kingdom has been consistently sending students to compete in the Olympiad from 2011 till the present day.
